Advanced Search
Cigital uses the extremely powerful
Webinator search engine, developed by
Thunderstone. If this search file doesn't answer your questions, visit the
Thunderstone Webinator help site.
The simple search box on the top menu bar always provides you an easy way to search the Cigital web site. If you want a more controlled, advanced search, right below the search box is a choice for "Advanced Search," which will let you set options and choose which database to search. Below is basic list of your options and what they mean.
FIND
In the "Find" box, enter your search terms here. The more terms you put in, the more relevant your results will be.
IN
There are multiple search indices available from our site:
- Cigital Web Site: Searches the text of all the pages on the Cigital web site
- SRM Hotlist Hotlist Index: All of the pages on the SRM Hotlist Hotlist have been indexed and are searchable from this index.
- Java Security Index: All of the pages listed on the Java Security Hotlist have been indexed and are searchable from this index.
- Java Security Articles Index: The text from the Java security articles listed on Gary McGraw's Java Security page have been indexed here.
- IEEE Northern Virginia: Searches only the pages of the IEEE Northern Virginia Chapter home page.
- Paper Abstracts: Searches the available abstracts of papers (about 40% of the available papers).
PROXIMITY

- Rank
- The ranking algorithm takes into consideration relative word ordering, word proximity, database frequency, document frequency, and position in text.
- Line
- All query terms must occur on the same line
- Sentence
- Query items should all reside within the same sentence
- Paragraph
- Within the same paragraph or text block
- Page
- All items must occur within same HTML document
WORD FORMS

- Exact: Only exact matches will be allowed
- Plural & possessives: Plural and possessive forms will be found (s, es, 's)
- Any word forms: As many word forms as can be derived will be located.
The defaults for the simple search are "Cigital Web Site, Rank, Plurals & possessives."
